So that this life could be mine

They sat right where they stood,
not crumpling, but grounding a moment,
to savor the songs of a late artist
who sang of wildflowers and of falling,
live in concert, in a different life
when they too had life yet left to give.

Her concentration on the performance
matched only by my attempt to capture this;
my wife, my daughter,
on the kitchen floor, reliving music of yesteryear;
a life left behind so this could be mine.
