It takes two

Had roses never drawn their thorns,
like laddered steps of bloody swords,
the dogs would eat just as they please;
insatiable, voracious greed.

But had roses never been so bold,
like diamonds, sat on wheels of gold,
the crows would spare their glistening eyes;
for beauties dare what they despise.
